Sept 1999.  Extension of Autoroute de la Sarre to connect Saarbrucken in Germany to Luxembourg includes viaduct across Moselle river and 1.585 km twin tube in soft dolomite at 5 % downgrade on continuous 1.8 km-radius curve with three crosspassages. Razel commenced driving 57 sq m top heading November, 1998 from upper portal only using face excavators and hydraulic hammers with Atlas Copco Boltec 435H drilling rockbolt holes and setting Swellex bolts in the crown at 11 off per metre advance and up to another eight in the face as temporary support. No water flushing possible because of hole erosion. Top heading about to reach halfway and 1.8 m-high bench ready to start. Full section will be 80 sq m.
