Breakthrough reported on the 6.3 km tunnel, 4.2 m in diameter, part of Phase 1 of the Sondu-Miriu Hydroelectricity Generation Project. Construction started in March, 1999 by a jv of Konoike, Veidekke, and Murray & Roberts for completion in March, 2003. Design and supervision by Nippon Koei Co. Ltd.
