Negotiated call for tenders, deadline 30th April, 2003 for construction of a 6.2 km 1,200 mm ID methane gas duct requiring the Prisnig tunnel and two microtunnels under Monte Lussari and Monte Coston Tedesco in Udine province. Two options for Prisnig tunnel. Solution A is 2,350 m-long, inner diameter 3.8 m using a double-shield TBM, lining with concrete segments. Solution B is 2,600 m-long, inner diameter 4.8 m using a TBM and conventional means, lining as the tunnel progresses or later on as per the rock characteristics. Monte Lussari microtunnel is 1.1 km-long, ID 2.4 m and Monte Coston Tedesco tunnel is 450 m-long, ID 2.4 m. Tunnelling of the Prisnig tunnel is expected to be difficult as the calcareous geology will mostly be karst with the possibility of caverns prone to fill with gypsum.
