Breakthrough reported on 15th June, 2001 by a jv of Collini and Oberosler on the new tunnel under Mount Sperone, 1 km-long 85 sq m, linking Riva and Limone after just six months, three for the design and tendering, and three for tunnelling. Total cost of Euro11.9 million. Drill/blast started simultaneously from the south and north portals, and at the 150 m-long service drive on 15th March, 2001 with an average weekly speed of 90 metres and a best day of 24 metres. This tunnel will bypass the previous route following the collapse in December, 2000 of a 1,000 cu m rock mass between the Panda and Eliadi tunnels. 46/01.
