NTA awarded to the Solel Boneh (49%) and China Rail Tunnel Group (51%) Joint Venture the contract for the design and build of the tunnel section from Hertzl Shaft to the Ben Gurion Station which is part of the Red Line in Tel Aviv. This section will be driven by 6 TBMs. The contract includes 11 km of 5·5 m diameter twin tunnels linked by 16 cross passages with 6 underground stations (Allenby, Yehudit, Shaul Hamelech, Arlozorov, Abba Hillel and Bialik). The 23 km Red Line will link Petakh Tikva, to the northeast of Tel Aviv, with Bat Yam to the south; it is expected to open for traffic in 2021.
