NHPC has finalised a Rs9.2 billion contract agreement with Larsen & Toubro for major civil works for the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower hydroelectric project, located in Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh and Dhemaji district of Assam. The project envisages the construction of a eight 9.5 m-diameter horse shoe-shaped headrace tunnels, with lengths varying from 630 m to 1,145 m and totalling 7.1 km altogether; a 236 m x 16 m x 62 m surge chamber; eight 8 m-diameter pressure shafts with varying depths ranging from 195 m to 212 m and totalling 1,628 m; a 285 m x 61 m x 64 m surface power house; a 206 m x 35 m tailrace tunnel; and two D-shaped tunnels, 9 m-diameter x 450 m in length and 6 m-diameter x 275 m in length.
