On 23/04/2023 the consortium Gek Terna-Aktor Concession SA-Indrakat signed the EUR290 million PPP contract (EUR90 million financed by the Recovery Fund) for the study, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of the 22.44 km section from Hersonissos junction in Heraklion to Neapoli in Lasithi of the Northern Road Axis of Crete. Contract duration 30 years.
The new section will have a 2.15 m carriageway, with 2 traffic lanes in each direction, 12 bridges, 5 single-tube tunnels and 5 new junctions. It's the second of the three sections of the BOAK to be contracted. Last 05/09/22 the EUR169 million contract for the first 14km section from Neapoli to Agios Nikolaos has been awarded to Aktor SA. The section will have 2.15 m carriageway, with 2 traffic lanes in each direction
