Overall length of 5.1 km for installation. The first contract involves the construction of a 1,070 m tunnel in north Kwai Chung using the drill/blast method; and a 650 m tunnel under Tsz Wan Shan Road, to be built by pipejacking using a mixed ground TBM. The second contract involves the construction of a 3,200 m tunnel across the Chi Ma Wan Peninsula by hard rock TBM, running from Pui O to Tai Long Wan along the southern coast of Lantau Island. The contract also covers the construction of a 190 m-long tunnel beneath the Tuen Mun River Channel by pipejacking using a mixed ground TBM. Detailed design is underway, and works on all four tunnels will start towards the end of 2002. Completion within three years. Visit www.clpgroup.com 22/02.Dragages Hong Kong won from CLP Power on 30th November, 2005 another design and build project for a 4.5 km cable tunnel in Hong Kong. The tunnel starts near the CLP Castle Peak power station and passes beneath the mountainous region of Castle Peak, finishing at a shaft near Tuen Mun Town. After the installation of electric cables (to be installed by others) the tunnel will form an integral component of CLP's power systems in the West New Territories region. Most of the 4.5 m-internal diameter tunnel will be constructed in good rock and the tunnel will be bored using a hard rock TBM with a segment erector installing precast segments. This is the fourth contract Dragages has won from CLP Power since 2002. Overall project management is by CLP Power Hong Kong and CLP's consultant is Atkins China. Hong Kong's MTR Corp has awarded two contracts, to Halcrow and Aecom, for design work on phase one of its 17 km Shatin-Central Link (SCL) project. The first phase involves an 11 km extension of the Ma On Shan Line from Tai Wai station via Diamond Hill to join up with West Rail at Hung Hom. This will ultimately create a 57 km East-West corridor to be worked by eight-car West Rail Line trains. The second phase will extend East Rail Line by 6 km from Hung Hom to Admiralty station on Hong Kong Island, to form a North-South corridor operated by nine-car East Rail trains.Halcrow will design a section of the route known as Lion Rock and Diamond Hill approach tunnels, which comprises 4.7 km twin tunnels to be built in two sections using drill/blast and TBMs. The tunnels have to fit within a narrow road corridor owing to constraints imposed by the foundations of nearby high-rise buildings.Aecom's design contract includes a new interchange station at Diamond Hill, a train stabling facility, the upgrade of an existing rail depot, and an extensive network of footbridges. Once completed, Diamond Hill is expected to become one of the busiest stations on the East-West corridor, providing an interchange with the Kwun Tong Line and handling around 47,000 daily passengers during morning peak hours.Construction of the Shatin-Central Link is expected to start in 2010. Completion of Phase I between Tai Wai and Hung Hom is envisaged in 2015, whilst Phase II from Hung Hom to Admiralty should be finished in 2019. For project details, click here. The north route, the shortest option, runs from Pingtan in Fujian to Hsinchu in northwest Taiwan and would cover about 127 km. The middle route links Putian with central Taiwan. The south route, the longest, runs from Xiamen's Xiuqiao to Xiaojinmen, to Jinmen, then to Penghu via tunnel, reaches Taiwan's Jiayi (Chia-i) via bridge and tunnel, covering a distance of 207 km over the sea. The longest underwater stretch of the southern route would be 130 km between the Jinmen and Penghu islands. 16/02.
