On the 8th of October 2017 construction of the 55 km Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) was completed.  The final fixes are now taking place and the bridge and tunnel will be fully operational by the end of 2017.

A ceremony was held back in July to mark the completion of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge undersea tunnel. The bridge has now become the world's longest cross-sea bridge, the main structure measures 29.6 km, including a 22.9 km bridge and a 6.7 km dual six-lane subsea tunnel linking two 10-hectare engineered islands, depths are up to 48 m below sea level.

The project has taken 7 years to complete, the final steps were, the dismantling of the island measuring platforms and steel-pipe piles for the temporary wharf. The work was carried out as part of a joint venture led by China Communications Construction Co Ltd (CCCC).
