The Angat water improvement project

The Angat water improvement project

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a EUR109,24 million (USD123.3 million) loan for a new water tunnel to help modernise Manila’s water supply. This will reduce the risk of shortages as demand for water rises in line with the city’s booming population. Angats current system provides more than 95% of Manila’s water but its existing tunnels are up to 75 years old and in poor condition.

The approval of the loan will allow the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) to construct a 6.3 km long concrete lined tunnel with an internal diameter of approximately 4.0m (Tunnel 4), an inlet structure within the Ipo reservoir as well as an outlet basin and connection to aqueduct 5 at Bigte.

The bidding for the Project is on-going wherein 3 Bidders have already qualified to submit their bids for the second stage (single envelope) scheduled on 22.03.2016.  An invitation to submit an expression of interest for the consulting services for project management has already been posted with a deadline of 18.04.2016.
