In Saint Martin La Porte the South tube heading in an Easterly direction has been excavated using traditional methods and has reached 10km. at the front the coal formation are mostly composed of tectonic soils, coal with few a blocks of sandstone and schists which are medium-grade metamorphic rock with medium to large, flat, sheet-like grains in a preferred orientation (nearby grains are roughly parallel). It is defined by having more than 50% platy and elongated minerals, often finely interleaved with quartz and feldspar. The maximum convergences measured are 58 cm at 15 m from the front and 45 cm at 25 m from the front. In August 2017, the average excavation progress was 45 cm / day.
