Construction of SRL East between Cheltenham and Box Hill is now underway. SRL East will deliver 26km of twin tunnels and 6 brand new underground stations and quicker journeys between major hospitals, universities, retail and employment districts.
Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) is supercharging its construction site safety with the use of innovative technology - trialing the Blindsight camera system to keep the community and workers safe while work powers ahead at the SRL East site in Clayton.
The micro TBM, named ‘Tracy the Treasure Hunter’ by the kids of Clayton, is working under Clayton Road after completing works along Dunstan Street, to move a 630m sewer pipe, as part of the first stage of works to pave the way for major construction.
The SRL transport super hub at Clayton will be one of the busiest stations on the network, connecting passengers to services on the Cranbourne/Pakenham and Gippsland lines and improving access to medical research facilities and hospitals in the growing health precinct.
When SRL is completed, trains from Cheltenham to Box Hill will slash travel times and ease congestion on the roads, and a trip between Cheltenham and Clayton will take less than 10 minutes.
