Statens Vegvesen will prioritize 20 Norwegian road projects, worth EUR15bn.

12/05/2022

On the 10/05/2022 and for the first time, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration has made a list of prioritized 20 road and tunnel projects for the next 6 years at an estimated cost of approximately EUR15 bn ( NOK150 bn) and has sent it to the Ministry of Transport and Communication:. Click here for the priority list with supplementary information.

At the top of this year's priority list are four projects that are considered completely ready for start-up:

  • E134 Oslofjord connection (Viken), EUR567.81 million (NOK5.83 bn)
  • E134 Roldal - Seljestad (Vestland), EUR325,18 million (NOK3.34 bn)
  • E6 Megarden - Morsvikbotn (Nordland), EUR999,70 million (NOK10.27 bn)
  • E16 Hylland - Slaeen (Vestland), EUR159.60 million (NOK1.64 bn)

The projects are assessed on the basis of planning status, socio-economic benefits and effects. The Tunnel Safety Regulations are an important factor, together with national emergency preparedness considerations. In Norway 90% of the transport work and 97 % of the value of the goods are transported by road. The road network represents great value for society and is an important prerequisite for increased productivity in the country. The standards of the roads are variable, and there are challenges with accessibility and traffic safety in several places.  Many large and small projects all over the country will contribute to increased value creation for the business community and a simpler everyday life for people.

In line with portfolio priorities, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration will once a year assess national road projects over EUR97.42 million (NOK1 bn) in NTP before any submission for political consideration. In a prioritization plan, there may be projects that change places if the utility value increases and the costs go down.

Operations and smaller projects

In addition to the projects that are now prioritized, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration also has a list of road projects between EUR19.49 million (NOK200 million) and EUR97.42 million (NOK1bn). The Norwegian Public Roads Administration has assessed the entire project portfolio of large and small projects in connection over long distances. At the same time, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration continues to give high priority to taking the best possible care of national roads through several minor remedial measures.
