Sruwaddacon Bay tunnel alignment movedShell has realigned the route of the proposed Corrib gas pipeline in County Mayo in order to avoid homes in the locality, and will reduce the gas pressure in the onshore section of the pipeline as a further safety measure. The modified route is longer, and requires a 4.9 km tunnel under the protected habitat at Sruwaddacon Bay. The offshore Corrib field will supply Ireland with 60% of its natural gas requirement over a 15-20 year period from some 80 wells.
