Seymour-Capilano Contract TerminatedVancouver broadcaster News1130.com/news has reported that Metro Vancouver has terminated its contract with Bilfinger Berger to construct the Seymour-Capilano water tunnel project, see ca/23. Since contract award on 31st August, 2004, just over 4 km of the total 14.2 km of tunnels have been completed. In January, 2008 Bilfinger Berger reported 10 serious incidents with weak ground to WorkSafe BC, who stopped the project until the danger had been eliminated or controlled. The remedial plan provided by Metro Vancouver was subsequently rejected by Bilfinger Berger, who seem then to have been unable to provide a schedule for the resumption of work.
