Recent Infrastructure Projects Motivate Hunter Personnel (UK) to Look to Spain for Engineering ExpertiseAs we all know over recent years Spain has been alive with infrastructure projects ranging from new and updated Metro projects for the cities of Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla and Malaga, to high speed railway tunnels making it quicker and easier to travel between Madrid and Barcelona and between Cordoba and Malaga. In fact, there are currently 49 Tunnel Boring Machines working hard across Spain, the highest number throughout Europe.Over the coming months many of these projects will be due to wind down, or move into different phases. For example, the High Speed Rail Link between Madrid and Barcelona is expected to be operational by the end of 2007 and Line 3 of the Barcelona Metro completed by early 2008. The skills and expertise gained during these projects puts Spanish engineers and all who have worked on these projects in an enviable position. Roger Bridge, Tunnel Agent for Balfour Beatty a major UK contractor, is keen to look at Spanish engineers, 'There is a wealth of experience and knowledge gained by Spanish engineers that will be particularly relevant to the Hindhead Road Tunnel project here in Surrey. The ground conditions in other parts of Europe including Spain are more like the conditions we are going to be facing at Hindhead in the UK where we will be using the Sprayed Concrete Lining process to tunnel into weak sand stone. It therefore makes sense for us to get involved in Hunter's recruitment initiative.'Mainland Europe is not the only place receptive to taking advantage of this expertise. Faber Maunsell a UK based consultancy is also looking to Spain and has come on board with the Hunter initiative. Chris Dulake, Director, Faber Maunsell comments,' From a consultancy perspective this is an excellent opportunity to use the skills and experienced gained in the Spanish market, not only for the UK but also worldwide'. Faber Maunsell currently has projects running across the globe including the UK, Australia, New York and Shanghai.David Kellett, Senior Consultant at Hunter also believes this to be an opportunity for Spanish Engineers to enhance their CVs. 'Working for an international company in an English speaking professional environment can only add to the desirability of that candidate for future positions. Most Senior Engineers and Directors will, at some stage of their careers, have worked in an international environment. These are the people our clients look for when recruiting for senior positions, and salary levels will reflect this experience.'To find out more about current positions we have available and to discuss future career development, please come and talk to David and his colleagues this October 5th and 6th at the Hotel Emperador, Gran Via No. 53, Madrid. To arrange an appointment, or send us your CV prior to that date, please send an email to: david.kellett@hunterpersonnel.com or karen.bozeat@hunterpersonnel.comTel: ++ 44 (0) 1202 298322.
