Mumbai Metro Line 3 renamed as Aqua Line

22/08/2019

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday unveiled the rolling stock model of Metro Line 3, which has been named AquaLine. The MMRC (Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation) has awarded the contract for designing and manufacturing of rolling stock to Alstom Transport India Limited.

The Aqua Line design is inspired by the vital flow of water, as the sea has a special place in the city. This line will offer a fast, efficient and sustainable mode of travel for the citizens of Mumbai.

The colour scheme of the rolling stock will have a unique blend of comfort (beige) and freshness (aqua green) to provide a relaxed and refreshing travel experience.

The MMRC will procure 31 trains of eight metro coaches each from Alstom India. All the trains for Mumbai Metro 3 are being manufactured at Alstom India’s manufacturing facility in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh under the Make in India initiative. Metro 3 rolling stock will be equipped with grade of automation 4.

Speaking on the occasion Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director, MMRC said, "We are happy Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis unveiled the design and model of the trains for Mumbai Metro 3 today. The manufacturing of trains would begin at Sri City factory of Alstom Transport India in November this year and the arrival of the first train is expected within a year."

On August 13th the MMRC achieved its 17th breakthrough at SEEPZ station. TBM Wainganga-3 tunnelled 574m for 126 days at an average of 4.55 m/day using 410 rings. With this milestone achieved PKG 7 has now completed 5.87 Kms of tunnelling out of a total of 7.07 Km.

On August 12th TBM Wainganga-2  was relaunched from MIDC shaft for its final drive of 973 m downline towards SEEPZ. The TBM made its last breakthrough on 30th June 2019 at MIDC metro station after driving 706 m  from Pali ground to MIDC completing 5km in total of tunnelling.
