On 30.10.2014 the loan agreement was signed between Montenegro and the Chinese Exim Bank on financing construction of the first 41 km-long section Smokovac-Uvce-Matesevo of the 169.2 km-long motorway between the port of Bar in the south and Boljare on the Montenegrin-Serbian border in the north of the country.

The bank will finance 85 percent of the EUR809 million total cost of the project, while the Montenegrin government will put up the balance. Construction is expected to start by the end of the year.
