Milan-Genoa Terzo Valico startupOn 18.11.2010 CIPE approved the start of Lot 1 construction work for the dei Giovi tunnel on the Milan-Genoa high-speed line and allocated EUR700 million to the preliminary works. For safety reasons, dei Giovi will be a twin-tube tunnel with cross-passages every 250 m. The general contractor is Cociv. Five more lots will be allocated at a total cost of EUR6.2 billion. According to the schedule, in eight years and four months, the 54 km Terzo Valico, with 39 km in tunnels, will facilitate faster transport of goods to Rotterdam and Northern Europe.
