In the March 2021 edition of the Lower Thames crossing video newsletter, an update  was given on the planning application, the ongoing survey works, the plans to build the team who will deliver the crossing and how they will work with local businesses.  

The planning inspectorate has asked to provide some more information on some technical elements of the planning application submitted last October and Highways England is busy bringing this information together.  

Survey works - such as Utility Trial Trenching -  have been continuing along the proposed route aiming to help to plan any utility diversions that would be required to build the Crossing.   

Highways England has already started the search for a partner to build the longest road tunnel in Britain. Last month it announced that Jacobs has been awarded the Integration Partner contract.  

In the coming weeks Highways England will also begin the search for partners for the Kent Roads and Roads North contracts – to build the new routes north and south of the river.
