Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has said that construction of the 4.5km Kartal-Kaynarca extension of M4 Kadikoy-Kartal (21.8 km) metro in Istanbul has been completed and test runs will start soon. This extension will add three new stations, Yakacik, Pendik and Kaynarca under the main state road E5. There are already 16 stations built Kadikoy, Ayrilikcesme, Acibadem, Unalan, Goztepe, Yenisahra, Kozyatagi, Bostanci, Kucukyali, Maltepe, Huzurevi, Gulsuyu, Esenkent, Hastane/Adliye, Soganlik and Kartal. These were part of the initial phase from Kadikoy to Kartal which opened in August 2012. The metro which is completely underground, is 26,960 m long with 19 stations. The tunneling methods used were a TBM between Kadikoy–Kozyatagi and Kartal-Kaynarca, and an NATM between Kozyatagi–Kartal. On the 19.08.2015 the consortium of Turkish construction companies Gulermak and YSE were awarded the contract to carry out civil works on the 7.4km extension with four stations as part of the Istanbul metro Line M4 from Kaynarca to Sabiha Gökçen International Airport.
