The green light has been given for work on the Gran Sasso Tunnel to begin. They had needed to comply with current technical regulations on the tunnels safety in the trans-European road network (known as TEN-T). The amendment was approved by the joint Environment and Transport Committees of the Chamber of Deputies, as part of the Infrastructure Decree Law.

The measure provides for the transfer of responsibility for the works from the Special Commissioner for the A24 and A25 motorway sections to the Special Commissioner for the safety of the Gran Sasso water system. This unification into a single commissioner structure of the interventions affecting the tunnel, both those related to the aquifer system and to earthquake safety, will make it possible to speed up and optimise the execution times of the works, limiting inconvenience for motorway users.
