Investing in the Future of Tunnelling at NAT 2026

The North American Tunnelling Conference (NAT 2026), hosted by the Underground Construction Association (UCA), will take place in Anaheim, California, from 15–18 June 2026. In addition to its technical programme and exhibition, NAT 2026 will feature several Development Fund for Tunnelling (DFT) and UCA initiatives aimed at supporting students, educators and early-career professionals entering the underground construction sector.

These programmes are designed to strengthen industry capability by encouraging participation, expanding access to specialist knowledge and recognising emerging leadership within the tunnelling community.

Student Attendance Scholarship

The Student Attendance Scholarship provides up to USD 1,500 in travel reimbursement in addition to conference registration for selected students to attend NAT 2026.

The scholarship enables students to:

  • Participate in technical sessions and workshops
  • Engage directly with contractors, consultants and suppliers
  • Gain exposure to current tunnelling projects and technologies

Teach the Professors / Lecturers Program

The Teach the Professors / Lecturers Program is intended to support university faculty and instructors who teach subjects related to underground construction.

The programme includes:

  • Conference registration
  • Participation in a dedicated NAT workshop
  • Structured networking opportunities with industry representatives
  • A USD 1,500 honorarium upon completion

The objective is to strengthen academic curricula by integrating current industry practice and technical developments.

Young Member Emerging Leaders Program

New for 2026, the Young Member Emerging Leaders Program recognises young professionals who demonstrate:

  • Leadership within the industry
  • Innovation in underground construction
  • Service to UCA
  • Commitment to advancing the tunnelling profession

The programme aims to elevate early-career professionals and encourage long-term engagement in the sector.

Application deadline: 29 March 2026

Students, working professionals and educators are encouraged to apply. Industry leaders, mentors and employers are also invited to nominate or encourage suitable candidates to participate.
