Hyderabad Metro Phase 2B’s three corridors approved in India

10/06/2025

Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) has informed that the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of the proposed Hyderabad Metro Phase 2B for JBS-Medchal, JBS-Shameerpet, and Airport - Future City Metro corridors have been approved, receiving clearance from the state cabinet on 5 June 2025. While cabinet clearance is a milestone, the project’s actual implementation will depend on timely financial approvals and coordination between multiple stakeholders, including the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Airports Authority of India, and local municipal bodies. Officials remain optimistic that tenders can be floated by late 2025, with civil works beginning early in 2026, subject to environmental and land-related approvals.

The project will be implemented  with an estimated cost of EUR2 bn (19,579 crore) jointly by the State and Central Governments. This massive infrastructure project aims to enhance urban mobility, reduce traffic congestion, and support sustainable development. A blend of elevated, underground, and lower-level corridors will be implemented using the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, involving both state and central funding.

The three corridors, spanning 86.1 km, are designed to connect key areas of the city, including the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) and emerging urban hubs like Future City:

  • the JBS (Jubilee Bus Station) - Medchal route will be a fully elevated corridor of 24.5 km with 18 stations;
  • the JBS – Shameerpet/Shamirpet route will be a 22-km corridor with 14 stations: 20.35 km elevated and 1.65 km underground near Hakimpet Airport;
  • the RGIA-Future City (Skill University) corridor is 39.6 km, of which 1.5 km will be underground from the airport, 21 km elevated, and 17 km at grade.
