Highest railway tunnelFenghuoshan tunnel, located in Zadoi county, Qinghai on the new 1,142 km-long Qingzang railway to Tibet at an altitude of 4,905 m ASL, is the highest railway tunnel in the world. Holed on 18.10.2002, the 1,338 m-long single-track tunnel was driven in permafrost under extreme climatic and environmental conditions, with oxygen generation necessary for excavation to proceed continuously and on schedule.
