EU funding reduction for Turin-Lyon line

12/11/2010
EU funding reduction for Turin-Lyon lineOn 27.10.2010 the European Commission published its mid-term review of 92 priority Trans-European Networks infrastructure projects, co-financed by the Commission under the TEN-T programme for 2007-2013 for a total amount of EUR5.3 billion. Over half (52.2%) of these projects are still on track for completion by December, 2013. A two-year extension is granted to 39 credible projects to support their completion, but 10 of these will suffer a funding cut, meaning the countries concerned will have to bear more of the construction cost. For the Turin-Lyon high-speed line construction, the European Commission decided a cut of EUR9.18 million on the EUR671.8 million already allocated. In order to avoid further reduction in funding, three conditions have been set: a new agreement to be signed between France and Italy before Christmas for the updating of the 2001 project; a clear mandate given to Ltf (Lyon Turin Railway) in charge of construction of the international section; and work to commence on the implementation of the exploratory tunnel at La Maddalena.
