By 28.09.2014 EPB TBM Barbara (diameter 15.08 m, length 115 m) owned by consortium Empedocle 2, comprising CMC (leader), Tecnis and CCC, reached the 1 km mark driving the Caltanissetta tunnel on SS 640 Agrigento-Caltanissetta in Sicily, Italy. The TBM installed 500 x 2 m rings. Excavation of this first tube, from Agrigento side, started on 24.06.2014, after the official ceremony on 04.06.2014. Average advance is 140 m/week, with a 28 m/day and 14 rings maximum on 04.09.2014.
