On 06.11.2014, construction of the 1.7 km-long Paci tunnel was completed on the southbound carriageway of Italy’s A3 motorway, between Scilla and Campo Calabro. It is the longest tunnel among the four twin-tube tunnels in the Macrolotto VI, and is the last rock tunnel and the 114th tunnel to be built since 2006 on the A3. The 1,720 m-long northbound tube was completed last August. Each tube, section 15 sq m, will be equipped with two SOS niches, two pedestrian bypasses and a vehicle crossover. Excavation of the tunnel was started in December, 2011.The 3.8 km road section including Paci tunnel will be opened to traffic in two tranches: the northbound carriageway at the end of November and the southbound carriageway in December.
