With the breakthrough achieved by TBM Lilia on October 6 at 12:40 p.m. in the municipality of Navis (Wipptal), the eastern main tunnel of construction lot H41 Sill Gorge–Pfons in the BBT project has been completed.
Since its launch from Ahrental in May 2023, the approximately 160-m long, 2,420-ton weight TBM has excavated 8.1 km of tunnel through rock. Along this route through the heart of the Alps, the TBM successfully navigated several geologically complex zones. The breakthrough point is located in the area of the existing auxiliary access Iris, towards the adjacent lot H53 Pfons–Brenner. At the same location, at the end of August, TBM Ida - the twin machine - had already arrived in the western main tunnel.
The excavation of the main tunnels, carried out using both mechanized and conventional methods in construction lot H41 Sill Gorge–Pfons, awarded by the project company BBT SE (the client) to the joint venture Arge H41 Sillschlucht–Pfons, is therefore now complete.
As of today - out of the original nine TBMs used in the entire BBT project - only TBMs Wilma and Olga are still in operation in the adjacent Austrian lot H53 Pfons–Brenner
