The Alaskan
Way Viaduct Replacement Program is making great progress. The
contractor, Seattle Tunnel Partners, is finishing up construction of the
double-deck road along with electrical/mechanical and plumbing systems (see the
progress here).
STP accomplished a tremendous amount of work in 2017, which you can see in this video (the pictures
say it all).
Also, STP’s
latest schedule moves up their substantial completion date to 15 Aug 2018.
We stress there is a tremendous amount of work ahead installing operational
and safety systems and commissioning the tunnel. It’s important to note
that once STP completes the tunnel, WSDOT will need several weeks to connect
the highway to the tunnel and build the final ramps. But we are cautiously
saying the tunnel could be open by this fall. This new
web post is a great reference for people interested in following the progress of the works.
WSDOT is
currently planning for the grand opening of the tunnel and looking forward to
the demolition of the viaduct.
Should be an exciting year! 01/18.
