A new milestone in the BBT project, on May 20th , a break through was made in the western main tunnel between the two lots H41 Sill Gorge-Pfons and H21 Sill Gorge.
In the western main tunnel of the construction lot H41 Sill Gorge-Pfons, in the direction of Innsbruck, approximately 3,415 m were excavated using the traditional method. Making its way through the Viller Berg mountain to a depth of 400 m, thus creating a seamless connection between the two Austrian construction lots H41 and H21 for a distance of approximately 14 km.
With this breakthrough, conventional excavation of the two main tunnels east and west in the direction of the Sill Gorge has now been completed. A total of approximately 5.8 km has been excavated. From now on, only short sections between the main tunnels and the exploratory tunnel (such as cross tunnels) will be constructed using conventional excavation.
Excavation of the western main tunnel began in mid-November 2022. Conventional excavation work began in Ahrental in the direction of Innsbruck, and in September 2024 they had the breakthrough of the eastern main tunnel between the Sill Gorge-Pfons and Sill Gorge lots.
The two TBMs Lilia and Ida that are excavating the tunnels of lot H41 Gola del Sill-Pfons are expected to complete their journey in the municipality of Navis by the summer. More generally, the works of lot H41 Gola del Sill-Pfons are proceeding according to the planned schedule.
Since mid-January 2022, the companies involved in the execution of works for RTI BBT – Lotto H41 Gola del Sill-Pfons, are Implenia Oesterreich GmbH, Implenia Schweiz AG, Webuild SpA and CSC Costruzioni SA.
