Expressions of interest, deadline 18th September, 2008 for detailed design for tunnels and associated structures for the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong express rail link. The section from Guangzhou to Shenzhen will start operation in 2010. The Hong Kong section will use a dedicated corridor in tunnel. Plans call for the construction of a 26 km tunnel from the existing west Kowloon rail terminal to the Hong Kong-Shenzhen boundary at Huanggang. Construction is due to start in late 2009 for completion in 2014 or 2015. Expressions of interest are invited from suitably qualified combined multi-disciplinary consultants in the disciplines of civil and structural engineering, architectural, building services engineering and quantity surveying, together with specialist input as appropriate from other disciplines including environmental, acoustics, lighting, system assurance, traffic, fire engineering and landscaping. The detailed design for the tunnels and associated structures will be split into two major packages, with appointments being made in early 2009. Agreement C802 is for the design of the tunnels and associated structures (South) between West Kowloon Terminus (WKT) and Pat Heung Vent Building. This is an alignment length of approximately 15 km. Agreement C803 is for the design of the tunnels and associated structures (North) between Pat Heung Vent Building and the boundary crossing, representing an alignment length of approximately 10 km. It is expected that cut-and-cover, drill-and-blast and TBM tunnelling methods will be adopted to suit the geological conditions along the alignment.
