The Sydney Metro West planning process

04/09/2020

The environmental assessment process for Sydney Metro West is being done in stages in recognition of the size of the project. Stage 1 seeks approval for station excavation and tunnelling between Westmead and The Bays. Stage 2 application (future approval) is expected to seek approval for all stations, depots and rail systems between Westmead and The Bays. Stage 3 application (future approval) is expected to seek approval for all major civil construction works including station excavation, tunnels, stations, depots and rail systems between The Bays and the Sydney CBD Station.

All future works will be subject to future assessment processes.

Stage 1

•    The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Sydney Metro West - Westmead to the Bays and the proposed corridor between Westmead and the Bays was open for public comment between 30 April and 26 June 2020.

•    Submissions on the EIS have now closed. Over an eight week period the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) received submissions on the EIS. DPIE will provide Sydney Metro with a copy of all submissions received during the exhibition period. Sydney Metro will review all the submissions and prepare a Submissions Report to respond to any issues raised. If changes are required as a result of the issues raises, a Preferred Infrastructure Report may also be prepared.  To learn more about the Sydney Metro West Stage 1 EIS, click here.
