Figueres tunnel excavation underwayWork has started on the 1.75 km-long Figueres tunnel on the 7.48 km-long Borrassa-Figueres section of the Madrid-Barcelona-French Border high-speed railway line. The 86 sq m section is being excavated from both portals using drill/blast and backhoe-mounted pneumatic hammers, and supported by steel arches with 20-25 cm of fibre reinforced shotcrete.
