The license has been approved for the construction of the new Albula rail tunnel on the Thusis-Tirano section, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008. The existing Albula tunnel, opened in 1903, has severe structural damage. The EUR286 million project involves construction of a new tunnel parallel to the existing one at 30 m separation, conversion of the old tunnel into a safety tunnel, and modernization of Preda and Spinas stations.
