Three consecutive tunnels with total length 6 km under construction in limestone and flysch by jv of C I Sarantopoulos, Athina, Attikat and Terna. Mainly hydraulic face excavator under umbrella drilled using Puntel drillrig, setting single-web steel arches at 1 m intervals. Some drill/blast using Tamrock 205 drillrig, advancing with extreme care beneath medieval castle. Ribbed bar 4 m x 25 mm grouted rockbolts with some micropiles. Normet Spraymec shotcrete jumbo. Final lining installed using Cifa 12 m x 6.18 m radius self-reacting formworks. October 1999.
Excavation complete. Final lining will commence shortly as a separate contract. March 2000.
