Hatch Mott MacDonald (HMM) has been selected to design twin tunnels for the Evergreen LRT line in Vancouver. The two 1.9 km-long tunnels will have a diameter of approximately 5.7 metres, will be constructed by pressurized face tunnel boring machines, and will be lined with precast concrete segments. Key elements of the project include the configuration of the portals within the urban environment and dealing with spatial constraints for construction. HMM is responsible for management of the geotechnical investigation, design, and preparation of procurement documents for construction, which is expected to proceed in 2007.
