Robbins TBM Breaks Through Outfall in Ferrol, Spain The Ministry of Development ended on 1st April, 2007 tunnelling of the land outfall in the estuary of Ferrol in Galicia, northwest Spain after a Robbins TBM successfully bored the last 12 metres of the tunnel. Visit www.therobbinscompany.com and www.chnorte.esThe tunnel links up La Malata area with the outer boundaries of the estuary in Cape Prioriño. Tunnelling took 42 months to be completed. The TBM, with the recourse to controlled blasting, drove a total of 7,343 metres. The 3.5 m-diameter tunnel will connect the future Cape Prioriño sewage treatment works with the sea outfall in La Malata. All the necessary pipelines are currently under construction. The crossing and lifting at La Malata includes a 1 km pipeline and a pump and lift station with capacity for 6.5 cubic metres per second to lift the water 56 metres higher to the tunnel mouth of the land outfall.
