On September 10th, the launch event for the works to secure the Campania Region's water supply system took place at the Campolattaro Dam construction site, in the province of Benevento, with the ceremonial start-up of the TBM named Falanghina.

The Campolattaro Scarl Consortium, composed of Ghella, Itinera, RDR, Idroambiente, and Tunnel Pro, is involved in the design and construction for two of the three lots of the project. 

The first lot includes the construction of a diversion tunnel 7.5 km long and 5.42 m in diameter, the construction of drinking water plant with a maximum capacity of 3,000 l/s and a 30,000 m3 storage tank, and the commissioning of the drinking water plant and a hydroelectric plant. 

The second lot involves building a drinking water delivery line, a feeder branch, and related site works to upgrade the aqueducts in the Benevento area by laying about 110 km of pipelines with diameters ranging from 400 mm to 1,800 mm. 

The project is one of seven strategic national interventions included in the PNRR and involves the construction of the reservoir on the Tammaro River, one of the main reservoirs in central and southern Italy. This basin was designed in the 1960s by the Cassa del Mezzogiorno for irrigation purposes, but its construction was interrupted and the work remained incomplete, never becoming operational. 

Once the project is completed, branch networks will be developed from the reservoir to supply water to twenty municipalities in the Benevento area and other aqueducts in Campania, with the aim of ensuring water autonomy for the region. This will guarantee drinking water to over 2.5 million citizens and the irrigation of approximately 15,000 hectares of agricultural land.
