The results of EuroTAP tests overseen by the German Automobile Club, ADAC, together with its partner clubs: ACI in Italy, OEAMTC in Austria, and TCS in Switzerland have been published.
The 2015 inspection, started at the beginning of the year, involves twenty tunnels in five countries: fourteen in Germany, two in Italy and Austria, the Saint Gotthard road tunnel in Switzerland, and the Mont Blanc tunnel between Italy and France.
In Italy the tunnels Mont Blanc and Sant'Angelo on the A3 gained an excellent in the overall assessment, while the Monza urban tunnel on SS 36 was judged good.
The other European tunnels tested had good results with excellence for Berg Bock and Rennsteig tunnels on A71 in Germany and Roppen tunnel on A12 in Austria.
Even if some critical issues, due to the 17 km-length, rest areas too far away and the high volumes of traffic, was recognized for the Gotthard, Switzerland, the overall result for the tunnel is good.
The critical points detected in almost every tunnels are cleanliness and brightness of the inner walls in the middle of the tunnel, the high volumes of traffic with high percentages of heavy vehicles, slow management of emergency, late activation of the ventilation systems and the low autonomy of rescuers in breathing during fire.
