At the end of May 2021 Metro de Panama opened the offers received from four groups for the design and basic details for the tunnel of Metro line 3 to be built below the Panama Canal. The tunnel will be 5.3km long, with a 13 m diameter and at a 65 m maximum depth. The Consortium Tunel de Las Americas, composed of Tecnica y Proyectos SA (Typsa) and Louis Berger LAC, obtained the best rating with a EUR11.02 million (USD9.86 million/PAB9.86 million) offer. But the consortiums Aecom-Sener Tunel Linea 3 and Ayesa-ILF objected and sent their observations to the authority.
