Reinforcement works of the crown of the 4 km bidirectional Comelico tunnel on trunk road SS 52 Carnica, in Belluno province, commenced on 15th September. These works will take 60 days and aim at reducing the water ingress from the overlying rock and consolidating the top heading of the tunnel by rebuilding the groundwater collection and drainage. The main works consist of the reinforcement and waterproofing of the tunnel vault by means of epoxy and polyurethane resin injections and bolts along with the installation of fretted metal sheet to intercept and channel the groundwater. The contractor is Pierobon Silvio of Belluno for EUR3.3 million. Further to this first phase, other works will follow worth EUR3 million. 38/08.
