Light Rail

  Negotiated procedure, deadline 23rd July, 2004 for construction management for the Rohbau tunnel on section 5-8 of Hamburg's light rail. This section includes a 2 x 1.8 km TBM-driven tunnel. E-mail bb.zeppelinstr@t-online.de 27/04.Hochtief and Bilfinger Berger will build the city railway to Hamburg airport, section 5-8, using a Herrenknecht mixshield TBM, machine S-258. The project includes a 2 x 1,750 m tunnel. A christening ceremony is planned for 6th December, 2004. The excavated diameter is 6,870 mm and the finished diameter after lining is 5,800 mm (inner) and 6,600 mm (outer diameter of the segments). Main figures of the machine are 8,500 mm (shield length), 64,000 mm (total length), 390 t (weight of shield), 610 t (weight in total), 1,800 kW (total installed power), 36,490 kN (total thrust) and 600 kW (cutterhead power). Lining to comprise six segments and one key segment. Geology will consist of boulder clay, coarse sand / gravel, medium sand, fine sand, silt and artificial soil. Commissioning scheduled for 2007.
