Hydro

Tamrock reports that Raytheon Constructors is using its computer-aided Maximatic 315-120 three-boom jumbos. Product information from www.tamrock.com January 2000.  Some 8.5 km of tunnel completed, comprising 60% of total. Initial poor rock conditions overcome and project back on schedule, largely due to 95% equipment availability. San Roque Power Corporation was formed by Sithe (50.05%), Marubeni (42.45%) and Kansai Electric (7.5%) to implement and operate the project for which overall cost is $1.2 billion funded one-third by Japan Bank for International Cooperation. Station will generate 345 MW for the Luzon grid under 25-year power purchase agreement using 3 x 115 MW turbines supplied by Toshiba. The Philippine Energy Plan requires another 5/6 hydro schemes similar to San Roque to meet its target of 114,000 MW by 2035. Because the National Power Corporation is to be privatised in the near future, these will be predominantly BOT schemes. March 2000.

Contact through www.halcrow.com and www.transfield.com.au February 2000.  Proposal mooted for 9 km-long tunnel with mini hydro up the valley chain from power station currently under construction from which the return water will deposit in the Bakun weir enabling the plant to generate electricity for the full 12 months of the year. Visit www.halcrow.com for contact. February 2000.Cordillera Hydro, a consortium of Australian-based Pacific Hydro and the Aboitz group of the Philippines, has awarded McConnell Dowell a contract for the construction of the 4 km Kayapa diversion tunnel, as part of the AUD24 million Bakun supplemental hydro project which, when completed, will feed additional water into the Bakun AC power plant and boost the output by about 50 GWh. The project is located on the Bakun River in Luzon, about 250 km north of Manila. Excavation will be carried out by the drill/blast method using rail mounted equipment. The project also involves construction of two weirs. The project is due for completion in mid 2005. Visit www.pacifichydro.com.au and www.macdow.com.au 31-32/04.

During a ceremony in Manila on 05/05/2022 the Department of Transportation (DOTr) officially awarded to the TTM Joint Venture, composed of Tokyu Construction Co Ltd (Japan), Tobishima Corporation (Japan) and Megawide Construction Corporation (Philippine-based) the PHP17.75 bn (EUR 321,23 million/USD340 million) Contract Package 104 (CP104) as part of the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) Phase1. The contract involves the construction of two underground stations and tunnels at Ortigas North and South. Construction will start work in July with the completion date set for January 2028.

The network will span 17 stations over 27.5 km, connecting the northern part of the metropolitan area to Ninoy Aquino International Airport. This subway will reduce travel time between Quezon City and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from 70 minutes to only 35 minutes, and revitalize the Philippine economy by easing traffic congestion in Metro Manila.

Tokyu's contract will apply to the roughly 3.4 km remaining for the first phase of the project. The joint venture will handle engineering work, tunnel construction and equipment installation, including that of an air conditioning and ventilation system.

To date, the Japanese Government, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has provided assistance amounting to YEN104 bn (EUR 768,35 million or USD 812.55 million) in the 1st part and YEN253bn (EUR1.87 bn or USD1.98 bn) in the 2nd part.
