Necso has placed an order with Herrenknecht for the supply of an EPB TBM to excavate a 3,538 m-long railway tunnel running from the existing station in El Humedal to Viesques with stations in Begoí±a, El Bibio and Viesques. The first station will be mined while the other two will be built in cut-and-cover. The 85 m-long machine (with backup) weighs 1,500 tons and will be equipped with a 10.56 m-diameter cutting head. The installed power will be 5,000 kW and the cutterhead power 3,600 kW. The nominal torque will be 26,026 kNm at 0.89 rev/min. The nominal thrust will be 17,500 kN. The cutting head will be equipped with 192 scrappers, 37 cutters and one copy cutter. There will be a segment erector and the excavated material will be mucked out using a conveyor belt.
