This month the construction site for the 3 km Perca ring road on the SS 49 in Val Pusteria began preparatory works. The Perca ring road will improve the viability and quality of life of the inhabitants of the town, through which 26,000 vehicles pass a day during peak hours.
The Perca ring road includes a 2,317 m long tunnel, 632 m of which will be built in the open air. Starting from the western entrance to the village, there is an open section 358 m long. The route alignment will be partly downhill from Perca and partly uphill from the Val Pusteria state road, crossing underground the most northern part of Vila di Sotto. The route rejoins the Val Pusteria state road at Nessano with an open section which will be 475 m long.
In the coming weeks, the Joint Venture Strabag AG, Alpenbau GmbH, Unionbau AG and Moser & Co - which won the contract - will concentrate on the preparatory works for the tunnel excavation which will begin in March. The tunnel will be built from both ends simultaneously .
The new infrastructure is the first major project launched for the 2026 Winter Olympics, for which the Rasun-Anterselva municipality will be the venue for the competition. The State is therefore funding the construction of the ring road with approximately 30 million Euros. Other projects are planned including the redesign of some crossroads, the improvement of the connection between San Cassiano and Cortina, the Val di Riga railway ring and other works for the railway, which will be the backbone of mobility during the sporting event and beyond, along with emission-free buses.
