The Karavanke tunnel between Slovenia and Austria has been undergoing maintenance and renovation work. The complete renovation of the tunnel is scheduled to be finished between 2020 and 2021. The overall value of the upgrade, complete with the investment and project documentation, has been estimated at EUR138.8 million, including VAT, 44% paid for by Slovenia and 56% by Austria. For this project the two countries received EUR3 million for the preparation of documentation through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) mechanism.
