The Norwegian Government has asked Jernbaneverket and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration to start planning the Ringerike Line and the new four-lane motorway on the E16 from Hogkastet across Kroksund to Honefoss. The project organisation was put in place last winter, and the objective is to start constructing both the railway and the road in 2019 and open the road and railway for traffic in 2024. The route for the development planning work will essentially follow the recommended solution submitted by Jernbaneverket and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. The Ringerike Line is a new 40 km double track connection, with a 66% tunnel share, between Sandvika and Honefoss in the east of Norway. The tunnel will be from Sandvika to Sundvollen. There will also be a station at Sundvollen in Hole. Both the road and the railway will cross Kroksund and continue on a shared route towards Honefoss. Future travelling time between Honefoss and Sandvika will be 20 minutes. Ringeriksbanen is a part of the Bergensbane that connects Oslo and Bergen. For future travelers this journey will be approximately one hour shorter. Click no/36 for tunnelbuilder archive.
