Conference and Training Course on Safety in TunnelsItaly today holds the world's main records regarding underground structures. Recently, risks have been increasing due to ageing tunnels while road and rail traffic conditions have drastically changed since the times when these tunnels have been put into operation.The objective of the conference and training course "Instruments and Solutions to Guarantee Safety in Tunnels", which will be held in Rome on 7th-9th March, 2006 is to illustrate what are the instruments and solutions available today to prevent critical events which endanger human life, the environment and equipment in tunnels. During the 2-day event, participants will get the rare opportunity to know about the solutions adopted in road, metro and railway tunnels. The two in-depth study days will enable participants to learn what is set by national and international standards on security in road, rail and urban tunnels; what criteria can be used to design a new tunnel and improve safety in an existing one; lighting in tunnels according to the UNI11095 standard; the factors to be considered to define the costs and benefits of safety; and how to identify the risks and transfer them onto the insurers.Lastly, a post-conference workshop on 9th March will provide an optimal opportunity to know and assess the environmental impact in the construction of infrastructures.
