Bramble, the first mini HS2 TBM

22/04/2022

The site at Wormwood Scrubs is where HS2 will relocate the Stamford Brook Sewer and some utility services currently running under Old Oak Common Lane. This needs to be done in order to construct the new super-hub station at Old Oak Common. Two mini TBMs will be used to create 9 micro-tunnels for the utilities and sewer.  HS2 will be able to lower and widen the road at a later date, in order to allow double decker buses to run under railway bridges.

During their visit to the work site, pupils from a year 3 class at Old Oak Primary School were invited to name the first TBM and chose the name ‘Bramble’.

‘Bramble’ is the first of the two small HS2 TBMs to be launched from the site in Wormwood Scrubs in West London at the end of April, as the Balfour Beatty, VINCI, Systra joint venture (BBVS JV) continues to build the new station at Old Oak Common. The machines will run 24 hours a day until August. Click here and uk/65 for further information in the tunnelbuilder archive and also visit https://www.hs2.org.uk/. 16/22.
